TCR Asia calendar adjustments see date and venue changes

The calendar for the 2017 TCR Asia Series has been heavily revised during the current season, with the changes now meaning that the finale will take place at the Zhejiang International Circuit in early October.

The season had originally been set to finish at the shanghai International Circuit in September, but this has now changed to the new Zhejiang circuit, whilst the Shanghai date has been moved forwards by one week.

The changes will also see the second round move to the Zhuhai Circuit near Macau on the 21to 23 April, replacing a planned date at the Korea International Circuit.

Zhuhai will also host the third round on the 12th to 14th May. The championship had been set to race again in Thailand at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, but the venue has now been removed from the calendar, with Zhuhai taking its place.

“With changes in Thailand and the opportunity to compete alongside TCR International and TCR China in Zhejiang, we have rationalized the calendar to make it more effective for teams, both existing and new to compete within TCR Asia across the remainder of the season,” explained WSC Asia Limited’s David Sonenscher.

“We’re very excited about the 2017 season, especially having the opportunity to compete at Bangsaen in July, and to finish the season off on such a high note in what will be an iconic event for touring cars in Asia at the impressive new Zhejiang facility.”
