Jeff Smith returns with Eurotech as second seat becomes available

Jeff Smith will continue in the British Touring Car Championship next season behind the wheel of a Eurotech Racing Honda Civic Type R.

Talks are in place regarding the second seat within the Midlands-based outfit, with Martin Depper departing after three seasons with the outfit.

Smith, who bought out the team on his return to the championship in 2015 following a sabbatical year, secured fourteen points finishes last season en route to 18th overall in the standings.

The team continued it’s resurgence towards the front, best exemplified by Daniel Lloyd’s brace of front row starts and run of five straight points finishes in his brief tenure with the team mid-season.

Smith insists the onus is on the team to strive forward with it’s strong technical foundation for next year, including a strong testing programme in warmer climates before the season gets underway at Brands Hatch on April 1st-2nd.

“We had great race pace last year and the true qualifying pace of the car was clearly proven by Daniel Lloyd when he put it on the front row in two out of three rounds he competed in,” Smith told Autosport’s Matt James.

“You can’t stand still in this championship, back at base in our new 8000 square foot state-of-the-art workshop the team have been flat out since we finished the last round at Brands Hatch.

“We have a full testing programme in place which includes a week-long test in Spain at the end of February, so I believe we will be in a strong position to move forwards in 2017.”
