Honda to carry just 30 kg of compensation weight in Qatar

Honda will carry just 30 kg of compensation weight for the season finale of the World Touring Car Championship in Qatar on Friday, down from the 60 kg which they carried last time out in China.

The five Civics on the grid will carry half as much compensation weight for the finale, based upon data collected from the last three race weekends.

The weight of the Hondas has fluctuated during the season, as the Japanese cars threaten the pace of the leading Citroën C-Elysées.

The Honda cars have not been this light since the sixth race meeting of the year at the Race of Russia in June.

For Rob Huff, who is currently fifth overall in the championship standings, the reduction in weight is a welcome boost for the end of year event.

“In Qatar we’ll have 30 kg and the last time we carried that kind of weight, we won,” said Huff. “That gives us all confidence of a strong end to the season.

“Will it be enough to enable me to finish second in the championship? I don’t know, but I won’t stop trying until I see the chequered flag.”

The five Citroëns will remain at 80 kg for the final meeting of the marque as an official WTCC manufacturer entry.

There will be no compensation weight whatsoever for the LADAs, Polestar Volvos and RML Chevrolets, which will all run at the base weight of 1,100 kg.
