TCR Asia Series cancels Zhejiang round, adds Malaysia instead

TCR Asia SeriesThe TCR Asia Series has been forced to cancel its planned round at the Zhejiang Circuit in China due to the new circuit not yet being complete, forcing the series to join the TCR International Series in Malaysia instead.

The TCR Asia Series had originally planned to visit the brand new circuit near Shaoxing, south-west of Shanghai, on October 23. However, the circuit is not yet ready to hold the race meeting, forcing a change in the schedule for the championship.

It means that the championship will now run at the Sepang International Circuit, where the first-ever round of the TCR Asia Series was held in 2015.

“Unfortunately the Zhejiang Circuit despite all assurances throughout the year, has suffered a setback with their completion date and will not be ready for action until later in the season,” explained David Sonenscher, CEO of organizer WSC Asia Limited.

“The perfect venue for the Series to find a replacement date was Sepang, as it gave us an opportunity to combine both the Asian and International Series once more, and as a venue, many of the TCR Asia Series teams are based in Sepang, so it was the perfect choice.”

The change in schedule means that the last two rounds of the TCR Asia Series season will be held in conjunction with the TCR International Series, which will also hit the streets of Macau in November.

“We’re proud to be back in Malaysia, which is where it all began for TCR Asia, and pleased to be able to run again with the International Series, and I think – just as they did at Thailand and Macau last year – the International Series guys will get a big surprise by the pace of our front-running teams.”
