Roberto Colciago to make TCR International début at Sepang

Experienced touring car driver, and new Italian Touring Car Champion, Roberto Colciago will make his début in the TCR International Series in Malaysia this weekend, racing a Honda Civic TCR for Target Competition.

48-year-old Colciago has an extensive touring car CV which includes racing in various Super Touring Championships in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including the Spanish and Italian Series’, where he claimed race victories.

He went on to take two Swedish Touring Car titles in 2001 and 2002, before moving to the European Touring Car Championship full-time for 2003.

He took victories in the ETCC, and subsequently raced in the World Touring Car Championship in selected races in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

Although he officially retired from racing at the end of the 2010 season, Colciago made a surprise comeback for the 2016 season to race a TCR Honda in the ITCC for AGS Motorsport, where he has dominated the field, claiming eight wins out of 12 races so far.

“The possibility to race at Sepang is the icing on the cake at the end of a very successful season,” said Colciago. “It’s no secret that the TCR concept had an important part in my decision to comeback to racing, as I believe this is the future for Touring Car competition for both the national and the international championships.

“I’m very looking forward to race in Malaysia and I will do my best for being competitive straight away with the top drivers of the TCR International Series.”
