Mat’o Homola sets the pace in first practice in Buriram

B3 Racing’s Mat’o Homola set the pace in first practice for the TCR International Series at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand, just a tenth of a second ahead of WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli.

The early pace in the session had been set by the Mulsanne Racing Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR of Petr Fulín, who had been on top of the times for more than half the session with a time of 1:44.869, before a number of drivers eventually beat his time.

Aside from Homola and Morbidelli, who rose to the top in the final minutes, local racer Jack Lemvard ended up third fastest, having briefly been the fastest driver of all before the experienced TCR drivers beat him.

Vattana Motorsport’s Lemvard ended up 0.401 seconds behind in third, ahead of fellow Thai racers Kantadhee Kusiri in fourth and Narasak Ittiritpong in fifth, both of the latter drivers at the wheel of Honda Civic TCR cars.

Fulín finished the session in sixth, ahead of Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Pepe Oriola in seventh, who completed his first laps of the weekend having elected to skip Friday’s testing due to his foot injury.

Leopard Racing’s Jean-Karl Vernay was the leading Volkswagen Golf GTi driver in eighth, ahead of the second B3 Racing SEAT of Dušan Borković in ninth, who was the last driver within a second of the pace.

Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Davit Kajaia completed the top ten, whilst Luigi Ferrara completed more running in FP1 than he did in all of Friday’s test sessions, where the Top Run Subaru had been hampered by an issue with a gearbox sensor. The Italian ended up in 12th overall, 1.2 seconds off the pace.

Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Sergey Afanasyev failed to complete any running in the session due to a loose exhaust, whilst Kratingdaeng Racing Team’s Grant Supaphongs also failed to take part in the session.

Second practice takes place at 13:00 local time (07:00 BST, 08:00 CEST) with qualifying following at 15:30 local time (09:30 BST, 10:30 CEST).
