Dave Newsham gets second Power Maxed outing at Rockingham

Dave Newsham will get a second chance to race for Power Maxed Racing in the current British Touring Car Championship season, as he races at Rockingham this weekend to continue substituting for father-to-be Kelvin Fletcher.

Newsham stood in for Fletcher at his home round in Scotland, with the actor missing the event to be with his expectant wife.

As Fletcher’s wife has still not given birth to their child, Newsham has once again been called upon to race the team’s second Chevrolet Cruze this weekend.

“Long term, I want to do everything I can to get back to the BTCC,” said Newsham, who announced on Monday his withdrawal from the British RallyCross Championship to focus on a BTCC return in 2017. “The chance to have another weekend in the championship I love is perfect though we will all be thinking of Kelvin and his partner, awaiting some happy news.”

Newsham managed to deliver the team’s best results of the season at Knockhill, taking a seventh in the opening race before following it up with two more points finishes in the subsequent races.

Power Maxed Racing Team Principal Adam Weaver believes Newsham’s input to the development of the car will also pay dividends for Fletcher at the end of the year.

“We will miss Kelvin at Rockingham, but it is great to work with Dave again,” said Weaver. “Seeing him perform at Knockhill was a delight and it has helped with yet more development of the car that will benefit Kelvin for the final two rounds.”
