Tom Ingram doubles up amid wet weather conditions at Snetterton

Tom Ingram finished the afternoon session fastest to register a perfect score on day one of the mid-season Dunlop tyre test at Snetterton, despite wet weather hampering the progress of some around the 2.99 mile circuit.

The Speedworks Motorsport pilot clocked a best lap time of 2:14.990 amid his 26 tours of the circuit, edging out impressive rookie Michael Epps by 0.733 seconds, with Adam Morgan, Aron Smith and defending champion Gordon Shedden rounding out the top five.

Despite being 1.2 seconds off the pace, it represents the first time Halfords Yuasa Racing have run competitively in some weeks, with the team enduring a frustrating triple header at Croft a fortnight ago.

Silverline Subaru BMR Racing had a better run than in the morning session, though surprisingly it was James Cole leading the line for the works outfit in 8th, with team-mates Jason Plato and Colin Turkington slightly further down the timesheets in 13th and 14th respectively.

Championship leaders West Surrey Racing found the afternoon less productive, with just 21 laps in total between Sam Tordoff and Rob Collard, whilst Jack Goff was unable to set a time in the third BMW 125i M-Sport.

Similarly, MG RCIB Insurance Racing elected to sit out the afternoon’s running due to the wet conditions.

Despite only clocking six laps in total, Andrew Jordan completed a strong day of running to finish 9th, having finished as runner-up in the drier conditions earlier in the day. Aiden Moffat also impressed with a brace of top ten classifications in the Mercedes A-Class.

Hunter Abbott scored the only other result of note as he finished the afternoon 7th, with team-mate Kelvin Fletcher 19th, and one of the Power Maxed racers will hand over the reigns of the Chevrolet Cruze to Volkswagen Cup leader Bobby Thompson for tomorrow as the latter makes his debut running in an NGTC car with a view to securing a move onto the TOCA package of championships next campaign.

The test allows Dunlop to gain a broad range of data about their potential tyre compounds for the 2017 season over a wide range of fuel loads, weight allocations, chassis models and compounds. Similarly, teams are able to use the time to familiarize themselves with the circuit ahead of the BTCC’s next three rounds in late July.

The second day at Snetterton gets underway tomorrow morning at 09:00, with entry to the Norfolk venue free to spectators and live timing available via TSL.
