Contact between Colin Turkington and Jason Plato as the Silverline Subaru BMR Racing duo disputed the lead of the second British Touring Car Championship race of the weekend allowed Rob Collard to surge through and claim victory.
Turkington and Plato completed the podium some 2.341 seconds adrift of the BMW 125i M-Sport, with Jack Goff and Ashley Sutton rounding out the top five.
At the start, Plato swooped around the outside of Turkington into the first corner to claim the lead of the race, whilst further back Goff got the jump on Sutton’s MG as it bogged down off the line and Collard surged forwards from 7th to 4th with a trademark strong start.
Turkington later re-claimed the lead from his equally decorated stablemate at roughly a third distance, whilst further back their team-mates found strife, with James Cole retiring with a trip into the gravel and Warren Scott sending his Levorg GT into a spin on two occasions.
On lap eight, the decisive moment of the race occurred into turn five as Plato attempted a move to the inside of Turkington, resulting in side-on-side contact with the Ulsterman. The contact allowed both BMW chargers behind to gain momentum rapidly and, although Goff braked in order to avoid a collision, Collard rapidly swooped to the inside and passed both Subaru’s to take the lead, which he never relinquished.
Mat Jackson, Tom Ingram, Sam Tordoff, Andrew Jordan and Matt Neal completed the top ten.
Sam Tordoff will start the final race on pole position as he looks to reclaim the lead of the championship. Tom Ingram will start alongside him on the front row.
