Eurotech Racing’s Daniel Lloyd stormed to the top of the timesheet at Croft Circuit in the second British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) free practice session with just two minutes remaining, posting a 1:24.511 around the 2.13-mile track.
He put his Honda Civic Type-R just 0.009 seconds ahead of the Speedworks Toyota Avensis of Tom Ingram, who was leading the session with just ten minutes remaining.
It has been an impressive run of form from the 23-year-old, who joined Jeff Smith’s outfit at the Thruxton round of the 2016 campaign, having made his way through the TOCA support package en route to being in the BTCC.
Motorbase’s Andrew Jordan showed great consistency going third, with the top three drivers separated by 0.013 seconds, as track temperatures had almost doubled in the mid-morning break between both practice sessions.
Points leader Sam Tordoff was again the best of the BMW drivers in fourth, ahead of a trio of BMR Subaru Levorg GTs, which was led by Warren Scott, as both Jason Plato and Colin Turkington would remain in the top ten for the entirety of the 40-minute session.
Former team mates Rob Austin and Hunter Abbott also showed strong pace, placing eighth and ninth, ahead of Team IHG Rewards Club’s Jack Goff, with the top ten split by 0.507 seconds.
Multiple drivers were issued warnings for exceeding track limits, which included both Scott and Turkington, as well as first free practice session pace setter Aiden Moffatt, who ended up 21st.
WIX Racing’s Adam Morgan would miss out on the top ten by a mere 0.003 seconds from Goff, but kept ahead of Arón Smith and Matt Neal. Gordon Shedden was 0.797 seconds off the blistering last-minute pace by Lloyd, with the Scot finding himself in 17th place.
The Team. HARD pairing of Michael Epps and Jake Hill were initially leading the way in the early goings, with both drivers able to keep their respective Toyota Avensis in the top 15.
Qualifying gets underway at 16:00 British Summer Time, as all 32 drivers will have just 30 minutes to try and secure pole position at the Yorkshire-based circuit.
