TCR switches from Monza to Imola for Italian round

ImolaThe Italian round of the 2016 TCR International Series will switch from Monza to Imola, with the event taking place to a special truncated timetable on the Sunday.

Series organisers had originally planned to make a return visit to Monza for the 2016 Italian round, but have been forced to make a last-minute change to Imola due to conflicts with the Mille Miglia event, which is also taking place at the circuit on 19 – 22 May.

“We are grateful to the Municipality of Imola and Formula Imola for offering us this opportunity to bring an international touring car series back to this glorious and demanding racetrack,” explained TCR promoter Marcello Lotti.

“We are currently meeting with a lot of interest from Italian teams and drivers that want to join for the event.”

Due to the event being solely for the TCR Series it has been decided to run the entire event in just one day, with a longer sole practice session anticipated in the morning followed by qualifying and both races.

Imola, formally known as the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, last hosted a major international touring car championship when the World Touring Car Championship visited the circuit in 2009.
