Sam Tordoff keen to banish Brands Hatch misfortune

Sam Tordoff admits he is keen to get the new Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season underway, with the Team JCT600 with GardX driver aiming to put a bad run of form at Brands Hatch behind him.

Tordoff, who re-signed with Dick Bennetts’ championship winning outfit for a second consecutive year after claiming a brace of race wins at Oulton Park and Croft for the squad last season, spoke of his eagerness to get back to the business of racing and is hopeful of a good start to his new campaign.

“I’ve been itching to get back into race mode for months, so Brands Hatch can’t come soon enough,” stated the Yorkshire-based driver.

“It’s not a circuit where I went particularly well last year, so while I’d like to correct that statistic, it’s even more important to come away with three solid lots of points and not have any silly incidents on what’s a tight circuit that can bite you very easily – especially with 32 cars on track.”

Tordoff also believes the absence of ballast in the initial stages of the championship will also provide a clear indicator of where the field stacks up in terms of performance, with pre-season testing times often proving obsolete in predicting the form guide.

“Brands Hatch will be the first time you see everyone running ballast-free, so that will give us a good indication of where we are in the pecking order. If we can have a good, clean run, I’ll consider that a job well done,” he explained.
