Adam Morgan aiming for Independents glory in 2016

Adam Morgan states his aim for the new British Touring Car Championship season is to claim Independents glory and both maintain and improve the level of performance and results he achieved last year.

Morgan, who pilots the striking black-and-yellow WIX Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class, took his first victory on the road at Thruxton in May and claimed several podium finishes, although ultimately finished behind Team BMR duo Jason Plato and Colin Turkington in the Independents standings.

With both Plato and Turkington now Manufacturer entries once again at Subaru, Morgan enters the new season as one of the favorites for the crown.

He explained his psychology heading into the new season to TouringCars.Net.

“[I’m expecting] more of the same,” said Morgan. “We had an outright victory, we had several podiums as well and we’ve also got that record of finishing every racing lap, which is something we’re very proud of.

“This year I’ve really set my sights on the Independents championship win; that’s my goal. Hopefully we can get our head round the new RML components.”

Morgan also believes it will be difficult to accurately predict the form guide heading into the new season, with several teams running varied and, at times, deceptive programmes during the pre-season mileage.

“It’s very difficult [to predict]; at the first round of the year, everybody has new stuff on. You never know what people are doing in testing – if they’ve got weight, boost pressure and all that kind of stuff. It’s very hard to say, but I’ve got to be realistic and say I want top fives straight from the word go,” he explained.

The opening round of the new season gets underway at Brands Hatch Indy on Sunday morning.
