Halfords Yuasa Racing parts ways with Andy Neate

Halfords Yuasa Racing have parted ways with Andy Neate with immediate effect, reducing the team to a two-car entry for the remainder of the 2016 British Touring Car Championship season.

Neate was originally announced as the third driver alongside Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden for the 2016 season, making his return to the championship three years after his previous attempt with his own team.

However Neate will not compete for the team for the remainder of the season, following a trio of point-less results in the season opener at Brands Hatch.

Series organiser TOCA has been kept aware of developments throughout the process and will take back control of the TBL which had been loaned to the squad for 2016.

The loaned TBL will be re-allocated by TOCA from the next event at Thruxton to another team or entry, reducing the grid for the Donington Park event this weekend to 31 cars.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Neate said:

“Whilst the guys at Honda and [Team] Dynamics have been great, your heart has got to be in something to fully commit. I think with so much going on for me my lack of full commitment and focus on the job isn’t the best way forward for me or such a great team as Honda Dynamics.

“I’m gonna (sic) enjoy watching my little man take the reins now. I got so much joy watching him get his first British podium last weekend. I knew then on top of the disappointment I felt after Brands that’s what it’s about now.

“I’ve had my fill over the years, broke a few bones and walked away with my life just about, thankfully, I did OK. But it’s over to my little man now, he’ll do much better than I ever did.”

Further details will be announced in due course.
