Rob Huff continues to set the TCR pace in Macau

WestCoast Racing’s Rob Huff continued to set the pace in second practice for the TCR International Series in Macau, ending the session more than a second ahead of Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Pepe Oriola.

Brit Huff went 1.3 seconds faster than he had done in first practice on Thursday to ensure that championship contender Oriola would have to work hard if he was to close the gap.

In the end, Oriola improved his lap time from Thursday by almost three seconds, but it was not enough to get close to former WTCC champion Huff, who remained the man to beat.

Oriola’s main rival, Target Competition’s Stefano Comini, was third fastest, and the only other driver to be within two seconds of Huff’s pace.

Jordi Gené ended the session in fourth, having been the ‘best of the rest’ behind Huff on Thursday. Kevin Gleason was the second fastest Honda driver after Huff, ending the session in sixth.

A quintet of SEAT León drivers completed the top ten, with Target Competition’s Jordi Oriola the first of the bunch in sixth. Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Sergey Afanasyev was seventh, ahead of the returning Andrea Belicchi in eighth.

Portuguese driver Francisco Mora was ninth, despite breaking a wheel rim at the Melco hairpin, with local Macanese racer Rodolfo Ávila in tenth, ending the session as the quickest of the TCR Asia Series competitors, just two tenths ahead of Henry Ho in 11th.

Having failed to post a lap time on Thursday due to a power steering failure, WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli clocked up nine laps of running on Friday, ending the session in 12th place.

James Nash was 13th fastest, but an engine problem late in the session forced him to return to the pits to allow his Proteam / FRD team to look into the problem.

Two drivers suffered sizeable crashes in the session; Target Competition’s Keith Chan hit the barriers at the high-speed Mandarin Bend, whilst Douglas Khoo hit the wall at the final corner.

Neither of Campos Racing’s two Brits, Dan Wells or Josh Files, were able to post a lap time in the session. Wells suffered from overheating and returned to the pits to protect his car, whilst Files was sidelined due to his crash on Thursday, along with Target Competition’s Rafaël Galiana.

Alain Menu did not take part in the session due to a weekend-ending engine failure on his Top Run Motorsport Subaru in first practice.
