Andrew Jordan: Title bid is ‘too much to ask’

Andrew Jordan insists that he is out of contention for the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) drivers’ title in the season finale at Brands Hatch, with the MG driver only just being in mathematical contention for the crown.

Jordan is currently 64 points adrift of championship leader Gordon Shedden, having had a consistent season which has seen him remain in the top five for much of the year. However only 67 points are on offer in the season finale, with such a result requiring a clean-sweep of victories including fastest laps and pole positions.

The former champion has failed to win a race since joining MG, and Jordan has amassed just five podium finishes over the course of the season so far.

“We go into the weekend as one of the championship contenders but there is no real reason for us to think about it; what we need to happen is too much to ask,” explained the 26-year-old. “Instead, I’d like to think we can still take third in the standings, but that will be a tough ask.

“I’ll give it my all because I just want to round out the season on a high. More podiums will be the aim and obviously I’ll be gunning for my first MG win as well.

“Brands Hatch GP is a great circuit though and the perfect place to end the season. It’s a really old school circuit and requires a lot of commitment when you go onto the loop. I love the place though and I can’t wait to get out on track.”

Jordan will have a busy couple of weeks in October, having been recently revealed as Mattias Ekström’s stand-in for the FIA World Rallycross Championship event in Italy the week after the BTCC finale.
