The Team RBM driver comfortably led home teammate Augusto Farfus to provide Bert Mampaey’s squad with its first 1-2 finish in the DTM, following on from Ernst Knoors’ outift doing the same in the previous race.

Blomqvist survived a safety car phase to pull away from the Brazilian, as Mercedes’ Lucas Auer brought out the red flag with seconds of the race left. The Austrian emerged safely after a hard hit with the barriers leading into the pit lane.

It was another dominant display from BMW, as António Félix da Costa completed a Munich 1-2-3-4, as Pascal Wehrlein was able to extend his points lead over Mattias Esktröm by finishing fifth, ahead of Paul Di Resta.

Race 13 winner and pole sitter, Timo Glock, would eventually finish in seventh.

The Safety Car was deployed due to another first corner incident, which saw Miguel Molina retire after being spun out by Christian Vietoris, along with Nico Müller being forced wide onto the gravel.

Eodardo Mortara also retired from the race on Lap 21, making it three cars for Audi Sport to not finish the race. It was a difficult weekend for the Ingolstadt brand, as Jamie Green was the only driver to end up in the top ten, finishing eighth ahead of the BMW duo of Maxime Martin and Bruno Spengler.

Mattias Ekström finished 11th, despite a good fightback from 23rd on the grid, ahead of Team Phoenix’s Timo Scheider. The Swede is now 14 points behind Wehrlein, as the top five drivers in the title fight are separated by 36 points.

Gary Paffett crossed the finish line ahead of Audi’s Adrien Tambay in 13th, as Daniel Juncadella took 15th. The Spaniard led three other drivers in the form of Robert Wickens, Lucas Auer and Maximillian Götz.

2013 champion Mike Rockenfeller finished 18th, ahead of Martin Tomczyk and Vietoris, who did not recover from his early collision with Molina on the very first lap.

The DTM now heads to the Nurbürgring in a fortnight’s time, which will take place between the 25th and 27th of September.
