Andrew Jordan tops Rockingham second practice

Triple Eight Racing’s Andrew Jordan clocked the quickest time during a close second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Rockingham, ahead of Tom Ingram and Jason Plato.

Jordan eclipsed first practice pacesetter Ingram in the closing stages of the 40-minute session with a best effort of 1:22.553s, to top the standings by 0.009s.

Free Practice Two was a much more representative affair than the day’s earlier session, with two separate incidents at Turn 1 for Stewart Lines and Rob Austin – the latter overshooting the corner by some distance – the only real on-track issues for any drivers.

Nick Foster set the early pace as he continues to get back to grips with West Surrey Racing’s BMW 125i, as times quickly tumbled below Ingram’s morning benchmark.

But it was those who chose not to set a time in the morning’s early practice session who quickly improved the pace, with Plato, Mat Jackson and Jordan all recording fast times before the latter’s team-mate, Jack Goff, went quickest.

Ingram then set consecutive fastest times, and looked set claim practice honours for a second consecutive session, only to be usurped by Jordan in the final five minutes.

Plato in third was just 0.049s off Jordan’s time himself, while Goff ended the session fourth and was also within a tenth of his team-mate’s effort.

Josh Cook continued his strong form with fifth in his Chevrolet Cruze, ahead of Gordon Shedden and Aron Smith. Cook’s team-mate Newsham was eighth, with Colin Turkington and Jackson completing the top ten.

In a sign of how close the times were, double Rockingham winner Rob Austin finished the session in 18th, just 1.017s away from Jordan’s time.

Qualifying starts at 15:40 BST.
