Andrew Jordan ‘pretty happy’ after qualifiyng

Andrew Jordan was encouraged by his British Touring Car Championship qualifying pace after securing a place on the second row for today’s opening race at Silverstone.

Triple Eight Racing driver Jordan was just edged out of third place after a late improvement from West Surrey Racing’s Sam Tordoff, and will start from fourth.

But speaking after the session the 26 year-old insisted that he was satisfied with his effort, despite feeling he could have improved slightly.

“I’m pretty happy with how qualifying went,” said Jordan. “We put in a great run of laps and if I’m honest I think we could have gone a tenth or two quicker.

“I had a great tow from James Cole but under braking I was too close to him and that perhaps cost me. It was a great time though especially when you consider we have 39kgs of weight on-board as well.”

Jordan admitted that following a challenging weekend at Rockingham three weeks ago he and his team had made changes to his MG6, and with those appearing to have paid dividends the 2013 champion was hopeful of fighting at the front.
“We’ve made quite a few changes to the car since Rockingham and it feels a lot better. It is encouraging to be in the mix from race one and have something to battle with as opposed to previous rounds. We have to capitalise on this now though.”I didn’t do a race run in practice but Jack managed to get some laps under his belt so we have a base to work from,” he continued. “I’m going for that first win of the year, like I have done all season, but you never know what will happen in the BTCC these days.

“The first aim in race one has to be to bank a good lap time for race two. It is going to be a good day’s racing and realistically podiums have to be the target for us as a team.”
