Welch Motorsport stripped of TBL licence

Welch Motorsport has become the second British Touring Car Championship team to be stripped of one of its TBL licences, ahead of the series’ visit to Knockhill this weekend.

The team skipped the previous round at Snetterton, just a week after second driver Andy Wilmot announced he would be leaving the team.

With the Hampshire-based squad withdrawing one of its Protons after it was unable to announce a replacement driver to partner Dan Welch, series organisers TOCA announced today that one of its licences would be cancelled for the remainder of the season.

“Due to the withdrawal from the Knockhill Championship Meeting of Car No.12, Welch Motorsport, the Administrator has subsequently cancelled the TBL (TOCA-BTCC Licence) associated with that entry forthwith,” read a statement from TOCA.

The announcement follows the previous cancellation of Support Our Paras Racing’s second licence before the Snetterton meeting two weeks ago.

The team is nevertheless expected to compete at the Scottish circuit, with Welch at the wheel of its sole entry.
