Jack Goff eager to ‘push on’ after Snetterton win

Jack Goff hopes his first British Touring Car Championship victory can act as a catalyst for greater success – both for himself and his team – in the remaining four rounds of the season.

Goff survived a late charge from Jason Plato to secure his first victory in the championship in the final race of the day at Snetterton, having started the reverse-grid race from pole.

The win was also a first of the season for Goff’s Triple Eight Racing team.

But despite the significance of his result, the MG driver was short of words to describe his emotions.

“It probably hasn’t sunk in fully yet,” said Goff of his victory. “But on the way home, at say a service station, I’ll probably start to think about it.

“It’s been a long time coming – I haven’t seen that top step since 2012 in the Clio Cup championship. To get the first one for myself, and obviously the first one this year for MG is a really nice feeling.”

Jack Goff celebrates his win

Despite Goff having secured the team’s first win of the season, the 24 year-old said that both he and team-mate Andrew Jordan were focused on continuing to improve their MG6, while adding that he hoped the victory would give the team renewed fight in the manufacturer/constructor championship.

“We just want the team to do well,” Goff told TouringCars.Net. “Me and Andy [Jordan] get on really well and together we’ve been pushing the car on.

“From the outside you might not see it but we have improved the car from last year; I know Jason had a lot more wins last year but I think everyone has pushed those boundaries further so they’ve gone faster again.

“Over the summer break, Andy came here and did a tyre test – unfortunately I couldn’t do that which put me on the back foot into qualifying but we learnt the track again and made it count in race three.

“It’s a monkey off my back,” he continued. “It’s good to get a first win under my belt.

“We’ve had a good day in the manufacturers’ championship; I don’t know what the points difference is between us and Honda but we’ve closed it up.

“Hopefully as a team we can push forward now.”
