Andrew Jordan sets the pace in second Snetterton practice

Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan set the pace in second practice for the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) at Snetterton, with the session having been red-flagged at the half-way point due to an accident for Laser Tools Racing’s Aiden Moffat.

Jordan, who is sporting a special chrome livery this weekend to celebrate the extension of his sponsorship deal with Pirtek, posted the fastest lap of the day in the closing seconds of the session. The MG driver ended up 0.020 seconds faster than Team BMR’s Colin Turkington, who also improved at the very end.

Jason Plato ensured the Team BMR cars continued to be prominent at the top of the times, ending up third quickest, just 0.040 seconds off the pace, having earlier been at the top of the timesheets for much of the final ten minutes.

Aron Smith had earlier been quickest in the first half of the session and ended up fourth, ahead of WSR’s birthday boy Andy Priaulx in fifth.

The second works’ MG of Jack Goff was a late improver in sixth, ahead of Speedworks Motorsport’s Tom Ingram in seventh.

Power Maxed Racing’s Dave Newsham improved to eighth in the closing minute of the session, with WSR’s Rob Collard and Honda’s Matt Neal completing the top ten.

Just missing out on the top ten were WSR’s Sam Tordoff in 11th and Honda’s Gordon Shedden in 12th, with the duo being the last drivers to be within a second of the pace around the long 2.97 mile Snetterton 300 circuit.

Moffat brought out the red flags half-way in to the session when the youngster crashed in the first sector at the Montreal hairpin. The incident saw the Scot referred to the medical centre, where he is reported to be conscious and showing signs of concussion.

Qualifying takes place at 15:45 BST.
