West Surrey Racing’s Sam Tordoff was quickest in the second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Croft, beating first practice pacesetter Tom Ingram and Andy Priaulx to top spot.
Tordoff improved his time towards the end of the 40-minute session after team-mate Priaulx had again led for much of the session, with Ingram also stealing into second late on.
The session start was delayed by a crash in the supporting Clio Cup qualifying session, but there was a normal start to proceedings as the rear-wheel drive powered cars dominated the early standings.
Rob Collard in the third WSR BMW was the early pacesetter, with his effort of 1:25.520s better than his first practice time, but both Priaulx and Tordoff quickly improved to give the team a 1-2-3.
The order at the front remained that way for some time, until Tordoff strung the quickest lap of the weekend together to claim top spot with a 1:24.534s, while Ingram’s second late effort of the day put him three tenths further back.
Behind Priaulx in fourth was Gordon Shedden who himself posted a quick time as the chequered flag fell, with Jack Goff the best-placed MG in fifth ahead of Adam Morgan.
Collard ended the session seventh with his early lap time, ahead of the Smith pairing of Jeff – who continued Eurotech’s impressive pace from the morning’s session – and Aron, while Rob Austin completed the top ten in his Audi A4.
There were more struggles for the championship contenders, however, with Andrew Jordan in 12th and Jason Plato, Colin Turkington and Matt Neal in 15th, 16th and 18th respectively.
Nicolas Hamilton picked up his first track limits warning en route to the 28th fastest time, with fellow rookie Max Coates propping up the pack in his Support Our Paras Racing Infiniti a place further back.
