LADA retains Jaap van Lagen for Moscow

LADA Sport will retain Jaap van Lagen as one of its drivers for the forthcoming World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) meeting at the Moscow Raceway in June.

Van Lagen was brought into the Russian team to replace the outgoing James Thompson for the German round at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The Dutchman has now been confirmed to stay for the next round in Russia as well, after Thompson’s return to the team has become increasingly unlikely.

Van Lagen returns to the WTCC having previously scored his first-ever points with a personal-best finish of ninth in the second race in Germany. The 38-year-old also won the F1-supporting Porsche Supercup last weekend on the streets of Monaco, defeating a 26-car field in the process.

A statement from LADA said that “the team hopes that van Lagen’s appearance on the top step of the podium in front of the Monaco Royal Box will provide the inspiration to bring a similar result at the LADA SPORT ROSNEFT team’s home race at the Moscow Raceway on the outskirts of Moscow on 7th June.”
