Teams and drivers from the British Touring Car Championship could compete during the 2015 Macau Grand Prix weekend, after it was revealed that the event’s organisers have been in contact with series director Alan Gow.

After ten years of hosting the World Touring Car Championship season finale, the event is currently without a touring car presence across its weekend for 2015 – with the season-ending WTCC meeting taking place in Qatar – and has been in talks with TOCA and other series administrators about the possibility of staging a race.

“The bosses at Macau have been in touch with TOCA,” Gow told Motorsport News. “They are looking at various options and the BTCC cars are one of those options.

“They asked me if teams would be interested so I got in touch with the teams and most of them said yes. The reaction has been positive, but I think they will only bring a handful of cars.

“The organisers haven’t had direct contact with the teams so they are just fishing around to see what is available.”

The TCR International series, which will begin in 2015, has also been heavily linked with the vacant spot since it announced its 2015 calendar in November. The season-ending race, which remains to be announced, is pencilled in for November 22, the same date as the Macau Grand Prix weekend, although series organisers WSC Limited have offered no indication that they will be heading to the Circuito da Guia.
