Sébastien Loeb has been given a post-race thirty second penalty after contact with Citroën team-mate Yvan Muller in the second World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) race in Shanghai, dropping him from fourth to 12th.
Loeb hit fellow Frenchman Muller at the hairpin on the second lap of the race whilst trying to pass for fifth position. However the two C-Elysée drivers made contact and Loeb clipped the right-rear wheel of Muller’s car, immediately breaking his suspension.
The race stewards deemed that Loeb was at fault for the incident, handing him a post-race drive-through penalty which has been applied as a 30-second time penalty, dropping him out of the points to 12th.
The move was crucial in the championship fight, resulting in leader José María López opening up a huge 93-point lead thanks to Muller’s non-score.
