Adam Morgan declared winner of second race

Adam Morgan has been awarded a first British Touring Car Championship victory at Brands Hatch, after MG’s Jason Plato was handed a 20-second time penalty after contact with Colin Turkington.

Plato, who had finished 2.281s ahead of WIX Racing driver Morgan on the road, had initially been handed a 10-place grid penalty, which dropped him to the back of the grid for the final race as the offence – which occurred on lap four of the second race when he punted Turkington out of the lead and into the gravel at Paddock Hill – was his third of the season.

But West Surrey Racing are understood to have been unhappy with that ruling, and as such the issue was revisited by the series stewards. The decision was then taken to hand Plato a time penalty, which dropped him to 13th, and handed Morgan – who had led for a brief period of time – a first series win – which was also his first podium of the season.

The penalty also means that Jack Clarke will start the imminent third race of the day from pole position.
