Jason Plato reprimanded; appeal later accepted

MG’s Jason Plato has had his appeal accepted and will not be penalised following qualifying, after having earlier been sent to the back of the grid for the first British Touring Car Championship race at Rockingham as a result of contact with Rob Austin last time out at Knockhill.

The hearing was held on Saturday morning at Rockingham, with Plato receiving his third strike for the incident. That means the former double champion will start race one on Sunday from the back of the grid.

Triple Eight Race Engineering are to appeal the decision, which will be heard later on Saturday afternoon before qualifying.

The incident in the final race at Knockhill saw Plato make contact with Austin, leading to the Audi driver’s retirement from the race.

Update: Plato has had his penalty overturned after Triple Eight appealed the earlier decision.
