MG’s Jason Plato set the pace in a rainy second British Touring Car Championship practice session at Oulton Park, with eBay Motors’ Colin Turkington and Rob Collard in second and third.
For much of the session the top times were traded between Turkington and Team BMR’s Alain Menu. However Plato posted the top time towards the end of the session, to deny Turkington and Collard a second successive 1-2 in the times.
Menu ended the session in fourth, having consistently been near the top of the times throughout the session.
Sam Tordoff and Marc Hynes made sure that all three MGs ended in the top six, although the duo were more than a second and a half off the pace.
Nick Foster was seventh fastest, having earlier been third briefly and given eBay Motors a 1-2-3 at the top of the timesheets.
Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan, Team BMR’s Árón Smith and Honda’s Gordon Shedden completed the top ten. None of the Honda’s looked like threatening for the top times throughout second practice.
It was another difficult session for Airwaves Racing’s Fabrizio Giovanardi, who could only manage the 19th quickest lap after struggling with set-up problems on his Ford Focus.
There were further problems during the session for Welch Motorsport’s Ollie Jackson, whose fuel-related issues from first practice continued. Glynn Geddie also retired to the pits early with gearbox issues on his Toyota.
Qualifying takes place at 15:20 BST (16:20 CEST), unless there are any further delays to the timetable.
