Audi’s Miguel Molina has been demoted to the back of the grid for the second Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters race of the season, after his RS5 DTM failed post-qualifying inspection checks.
Spaniard Molina originally qualified on pole with a sensational lap more than half a second faster than BMW’s Marco Wittmann. However his car was found to have the end plates of his rear wing 2.7 and 1.5 mm further back than the regulations allow, according to Article T3.16g of the technical regulations.
Therefore Molina loses all of his qualifying times, promoting Wittmann to his second pole position in the DTM. Molina will have to start from the back of the grid in 23rd.
Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline, who originally intended to appeal, later renounced their decision to do so.
