Citroën receive maximum weight for Hungary

Photo by FIA WTCC MediaCitroën will receive the maximum 60 kg of compensation weight ahead of the third round of the World Touring Car Championship this weekend in Hungary, with Chevrolet, Honda and LADA all running without any additional weight.

The WTCC’s compensation weights system is calculated based upon the best lap times of the fastest two cars of each model in qualifying and the best lap times of the fastest two cars of each model in the races, all of which is averaged.

The calculations are based upon a three-event rolling average, meaning that any circuit-specific advantages or disadvantages for each model of car should be smoothed out.

Citroën receive the maximum possible compensation weight due to having won all four races so far in 2014 and taken all four fastest laps and pole positions. Therefore the team’s C-Elysée cars will run at 1160 kg this weekend, including the minimum weight.

For the first two events of the season all TC1 cars carried the maximum of 60 kg of weight. Chevrolet, Honda and LADA will now benefit from being able to remove this weight for the Hungaroring event.

No compensation weight is applied in the TC2 class, with the BMW, SEAT and Honda cars all running at the minimum base weight of 1150 kg for the duration of the season.
