Honda unveils first images of TC1 car

Honda has released the first images of its new Civic for the 2014 World Touring Car Championship, with the pictures having been taken at a recent test in Aragon in Northern Spain.

The Japanese manufacturer had previously released an artists impression of its new car in December, but until today had not released any official photographs of the new TC1 car.

Compared to the 2013 car, the new Civic features wider wheelarches to house the larger 18 inch wheels, larger front and rear aerodynamics and increased power and acceleration.

Honda’s President and CEO, Takanobu Ito, says that the manufacturer is aiming to take both the driver’s and manufacturer’s titles in 2014, having won the manufacturer’s title in 2013.

“We achieved four victories and captured the manufacturer’s title last season in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, which was our first year of full-participation,” said Ito. “In this season, we will strive to win the double title for driver’s and manufacturer’s with a total of four machines including a works team and two private teams.”

Alongside Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro in the two JAS Motorsport works cars will be Norbert Michelisz in a Zeng*#337; Motorsport car and Mehdi Bennani in a Proteam Racing Honda.

The team will race under the banner of the ‘Castrol Honda World Touring Car Team’ in 2014.
