Aiden Moffat to race Team HARD Passat

Aiden Moffat is set to become the ninth driver to race for Team Hard in the 2013 British Touring Car Championship after it was announced he will race the teams’ VW Passat CC.

16 year old Moffat, who joined the grid at Knockhill in the Finesse Motorsport Chevrolet Cruze makes the step up into NGTC machinery after one BTCC weekend, has sat out Rockingham due to clashing races at Knockhill.

The Chevrolet Cruze has suffered a number of issues throughout the season and it was decided that to aid Moffat’s progress in the BTCC, a switch to NGTC machinery was the best move.

“Aiden is a real star of the future in the BTCC,” Team Hard Team principal Tony Gilham said to BTCC.net. “We’ve been talking to him for a while and we’re delighted to be able to give him this opportunity for the rest of the season.

“He showed good promise at Knockhill but unfortunately the reliability wasn’t there in his car. We hope to change all that by providing a reliable and quick car for him show his potential.”

Tom Onslow-Cole showed the potential of the VW Passat CC with three podium finishes during the opening half of the season and Andy Wilmot took a brace of 18th place finishes at Rockingham in his maiden BTCC outing.

Moffat is due to test the car at Brands Hatch this Friday before making his debut for Team Hard at the penultimate round of the season at Silverstone next weekend.

Gilham is hoping that the relationship with Moffat can become a long term relationship: “There’s no pressure on him but we’re excited to see how he gets on before hopefully building a long-term relationship,” Gilham concluded.
