MG duo confident ahead of Rockingham

The MG KX Momentum team is confident ahead of the trip to Rockingham, a circuit which Jason Plato dominated at in the dry last year.

“We were very fast at Rockingham last year and that should carry over to 2013 as well,” Plato said. “It is an interesting track with lots of technical bits, but everybody loves the banked Turn One, which is taken flat out. It is a ballsy corner and one which requires total commitment – its right up my alley.”

Having fallen 55 points behind Championship leader Matt Neal after two tough weekends at Snetterton and Knockhill, the 2001 and 2010 Champion has changed his ambitions for the eighth weekend of the 2013 British Touring Car Championship season.

“I will be Harry Flatters,” he says. “It is quite liberating because all I need to do now is concentrate on race wins and I don’t have to play any strategic games just to bank points.

“Whatever else happens will happen in terms of the bigger picture but nothing but victories will do for me now. That means I will be on maximum attack at Rockingham and for the rest of the season.”

The teams’ most recent winner, Sam Tordoff, is hoping to replicate his Snetterton victory in Northamptonshire. He arrives at Rockingham as the first of the ballast free drivers and is hoping that he can use that to his advantage.

“I really think that we stand an excellent chance this weekend,” explained he Yorkshireman.

“The track is pretty similar to Snetterton, where I won, in that it has lots of high-speed corners where the car is under load. That is a particular strength of the MG.

“Also, we will be going in to the meeting without any success ballast, while all of the other frontrunners will have. That will play to our advantage too, so I am very optimistic,” he concluded.
