Buhk and Götz get Mercedes DTM test

Photo by Daimler AGMercedes sportscar racers Maximilian Buhk and Maximilian Götz are to make their DTM test début’s for the Stuttgart manufacturer at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz next month.

The German duo have already impressed at the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 this season, including taking victory in the legendary Spa 24 Hour race in late July alongside DTM legend Bernd Schneider.

The duo took titles for the manufacturer in 2012, with Buhk winning the FIA GT3 European Championship and Götz winning the ADAC GT Masters title in 2012. The duo are currently leading the 2013 ADAC GT Masters series in one of the cars as well.

Buhk, 20, is excited about the opportunity to test one of the HWA DTM car’s on the 17th September.

“I am delighted that Mercedes-AMG and HWA have shown the confidence in me to offer this opportunity to drive a DTM car,” said Buhk. “I’m feeling very excited about getting into the cockpit of a DTM Mercedes, and I’ll be trying to get as much experience as possible.”

Götz, who at 27 is significantly more experienced than his compatriot, admits that he is relishing the opportunity. The German has shown flashes of brilliance in the past, winning the 2003 Formula BMW ADAC series.

“This is a major opportunity for me,” said Götz. “With this test, Mercedes-AMG are helping me to turn a dream into reality. I just can’t wait to get behind the wheel of a DTM car there.”

Mercedes-Benz Head of Motorsport, Toto Wolff, said that the test for the two drivers had come about due to their recent successes in high-performance cars, and that offering them a DTM test was the next step for the duo.

“With their success in the SLS AMG GT3, the two Maximilians have seized the opportunity to showcase their talent in a high-performance vehicle,” explained Wolff. “Against strong competition, they have shown that they are ready to step up to the next level.

“With our DTM driver line-up for the current year, we have demonstrated that we are prepared to put our faith in young and fast drivers – an approach that has already yielded dividends this season in the form of podium finishes. For their outstanding performance in the gullwing Mercedes, the two Maximilians fully deserve this forthcoming DTM test.”
