Audi test for di Grassi and Müller

Photo by Audi AGFormer Formula 1 driver Lucas di Grassi and Formula Renault 3.5 driver Nico Müller will get the chance to test a contemporary DTM car at the Red Bull Ring this week.

Di Grassi, 29, raced for the Virgin Racing F1 team during the 2010 season, in which he claimed a best finish of 14th in the first season for the start-up squad. The Brazilian has since raced in sportscars, having joined Audi for their campaign in the FIA World Endurance Championship, where he has claimed a trio of podium finishes since 2012.

Swiss Müller, 21, has been competing in the Formula Renault 3.5 series where he has already achieved his first victory in the support race for the Monaco Grand Prix this year. Müller is a former GP3 race winner, having scored three wins between 2010 and 2011 in the support category for GP2.

For Müller, it will not be the first time he has got behind the wheel of a DTM car, having previously tested for Audi in the Spring of 2012.

“We are intrigued to see just how Nico and Lucas get to grips with our RS 5 DTM,” said Audi Sport’s Head of DTM Dieter Gass. “Nico is a promising young driver whose career we have followed with great interest for some years now. Lucas has impressed our sportscar team with his speed and knowledgeable technical feedback, which is why he is regarded as excellent test driver.”

Regular Audi drivers Mike Rockenfeller and Mattias Ekström will also be in action at the test in Austria, with Mercedes-Benz and BMW also present.
