MG’s Jason Plato took his second win of the day in race two of the British Touring Car Championship at Oulton Park, as Honda’s Gordon Shedden and eBay Motors’ Colin Turkington completed the podium.

Plato was dominant in his victory and used the restart after a short safety car period to break from his teammate Sam Tordoff (running the soft tyres) and build an unassailable lead.
Shedden worked his way around Tordoff at the beginning of the eighth lap, but was unable to make any impression on Plato’s position at the front. Turkington made a brave move stick into Old Hall on lap 14 to claim third place and his second podium of the season.
Apart from the safety car period, brought out after Jack Goff stopped his Insignia in the pitlane entrance, race two appeared as though it would be a quiet affair until the closing laps.
Tordoff began to struggle on his soft tyres, with first Matt Neal on lap 14 and then Andrew Jordan a lap later passing the MG driver at the Island hairpin. Mat Jackson fancied his chances of repeating the move one tour later but Tordoff staunchly defended the inside line, with Jackson running into the rear of his car. As they exited the corner, Jackson’s wide line crossed Tordoff’s rear wheel, bending the suspension on the right rear of the MG driver’s car and the left front of Jackson’s Focus.
The pair subsequently dropped down the order, allowing the Toyota pairing of Dave Newsham and Adam Morgan to secure sixth and seventh finishes at their home event. Rob Austin utilised a fast start in his Audi and the chaos at the hairpin to advance five places from his grid slot to eighth, ahead of Dan Welch and Jeff Smith, who will start the third race of the day from pole position.
Lea Wood was once again imperious at the head of the S2000 field finishing in touching distance of the points, with Liam Griffin unable to challenge Wood’s Vectra.
