Alex MacDowall predicts ‘good’ Salzburgring

Alex MacDowall is targeting the top of the Yokohama Independents’ trophy points as the 2013 World Touring Car Championship heads to the Salzburgring for rounds 9 and 10 of the season.

Having taken his maiden win in the class in Austria last year, the bamboo engineering driver is hoping to repeat that success and back up the form he has shown in Slovakia and Hungary.

He took his second Yokohama Independents’ victory of the season in Slovakia – a track where he had expected to struggle – and in Hungary, he took his second outright WTCC podium finish as well as a brace of top 3 finishes in class.

As well as chasing the top of the Yokohama Independent points standings, MacDowall is chasing a top 3 position in the overall Championship and he finds himself 15 points off third arriving in Austria.

“I’m looking forward to going back to Salzburg”, said the 22 year old Cumbrian driver.

“It should be good for us, the track suits the Chevy and if we can get on the pace straight away and not have any problems I think we’ll have a strong weekend – I’m really confident we can.

“Last year in Austria was fantastic, we were quick all weekend and getting my first Independents win was a real high point. The last couple of rounds have been good and we need to build on that next weekend, we’ve got to keep the momentum going. If everything goes as it should, we’ve got a great chance of moving to the top of the Independents standings,” he concludes.
