“The track conditions were really good. I did a race run and the tyres held up pretty well so the car looks pretty good over a race distance. If we can get pole that would be great, but if we can qualify in the top four it would be a good result.”

Gordon Shedden ended the session third fastest, although the Honda driver had briefly been on top with five minutes to go. He was trailed by MG’s Sam Tordoff and Honda team-mate Matt Neal, who once again showed that the works cars would be a force to be reckoned with this weekend.

Dave Newsham ended the session sixth, after posting a fast lap in the final half of the session. Fellow Toyota racers Frank Wrathall and Adam Morgan were seventh and eighth respectively, with the two unrelated Smiths of Jeff and Árón completing the top ten.

It was another difficult session for the eBay Motors team, with none of their three drivers breaking the top ten. Indeed Colin Turkington was three tenths slower than his morning time, endeding the session in 12th.

Tom Onslow-Cole was unable to match his pace from the first practice session and could only manage 17th in FP2, around 0.3 seconds slower than his time in the earlier session.

Qualifying takes place at 15:40 GMT (16:40 CET).
