Liam Griffin takes double Jack Sears victory

Liam Griffin opened his 2013 British Touring Car Championship campaign with a double victory in the newly formed Jack Sears Trophy.

Griffin, racing under the Addison Lee Motorbase name for the 2013 campaign at the wheel of the S2000 Ford Focus ST secured his and the teams’ first pieces of silverware at their home circuit, Brands Hatch.

The opening race of the season for Griffin saw him come home 17th and third in the Jack Sears Trophy but he went two better in the second race as he finished 11th overall and top of the S2000 runners.

He was able to replicate his performance in the third race, despite finishing 16th at the flag – he was promoted to 15th after Lea Wood was excluded and thus inherited his second Jack Sears Trophy victory of the day and another outright points finish.

His results mean that after the opening three races, he is 16th overall and 10th in the Independents’ classification while leading the way in the Jack Sears trophy. His results also marked his best BTCC weekend to date.

“That was a great weekend,” enthused Griffin. “I came back to try and win some silverware and to have a little bit of competition, and that’s what the Jack Sears Trophy is all about. We’ve got a few really good drivers in there that are fairly evenly matched and I think it’ll be quite a good fun season now.

“Ultimately that’s what you come racing for – to get on that podium; so to be stood there next to BTCC champions spraying champagne is a pretty special moment!” he concluded.
