Menu posted the time that put him fastest within the closing five minutes of the session, to once again show his pace over a single-lap run. The work’s Chevrolet trio were in command in the second practice session, following on from Alex MacDowall and Colin Turkington having put their independent Chevrolet’s top in the Friday and Saturday sessions previously.

Although Menu was fastest, he admitted that he had been struggling with the nature of the long Shanghai International Circuit throughout the practice sessions.

“It is not an easy track to learn,” said Menu. “It is quite technical, although there are not fast corners. Some parts are tricky, like Turn 1. And on top of this the tarmac is very slippery, which makes difficult to make a clean lap. I think that so far drivers are improving more than the cars.”

Tom Coronel improved on his position in the earler morning session to go fourth fastest, ahead of fellow BMW driver Norbert Michelisz in fifth.

Tom Boardman enjoyed a strong session to post the seventh fastest time, just two tenths behind Gabriele Tarquini’s SEAT in sixth.

The morning pace setter Turkington was eighth fastest in his WSR Chevrolet, with Alberto Cerqui and Mehdi Bennani completing the top ten in their BMW 320 TC’s.
