Wiechers-Sport chases Chinese success

Wiechers-Sport heads to the Shanghai International Circuit in Shanghai, China for rounds 21 and 22 of the season, looking to repeat its victory at Suzuka last time out.

Stefano D’Aste took his second victory of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship season at the Japanese Grand Prix venue, a result which leaves him 8th overall in the drivers’ Championship with 117 points.

The Shanghai International Circuit replaces the Shanghai Tian Ma circuit which hosted the maiden World Touring Car Championship race of China last year.

“The course in Shanghai is a very technical track,” explains D’Aste, who is the first multiple non Chevrolet winner since 2010.

“I think everything has to be 100% to be competitive. There is a long straight, there is a strong engine and requires a lot of corners where we need a good setup. I know the track so far only from the simulator and am really looking forward to this interesting course! ”

Team Manager at Wiechers-Sport, Dominik Greiner hopes that the Japanese success can lead to more success during the final four rounds of the Championship.

D’Aste has a 35 point gap to make up on current Yokohama Independents’ Championship leader Norbert Michelisz and Greiner hopes to reduce that gap before the finale at Macau, where double points are awarded for the Independents.

“Following our recent success in Suzuka we travel very motivated to China,” commented Greiner. “We look forward to Shanghai, because this track is new territory for most drivers.

We are currently behind Norbert Michelisz by 35 points and 25 points on Pepe Oriola. We are trying to minimize the gap in Shanghai, so we still have a chance in Macau for the title. It is difficult but not impossible. We will give it to the fall of the checkered flag in Macau at full throttle!” concluded Greiner.
