Darryl O’Young chases Brazilian podium

Darryl O’Young has set his sights high ahead of the eighth round of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship at Curitiba, Brazil.

The 3.7km circuit plays host to the WTCC for the seventh time, and the second time it has featured mid season. From 2007 until 2011, Curitiba played host to the opening rounds of the WTCC, while the circuit last hosted a mid season event in 2006.

While the WTCC has been on a 50 day break, O’Young has continued to race and he took a top four position during the fifth round of the FIA GT1 World Championship two weeks ago, again in Portugal.

Arriving in Brazil after a 30 hour flight which took in four connecting flights, O’Young has his sights set on a podium finish in the SEAT Sport powered Special Tuning Racing SEAT Leon. The cars will run 30 kilos lighter this weekend than in Portimao.

“I am very hopeful for Curitiba as it is a track that I believe will be strong for the SEAT. With the cooler weather and the 30kg weight break, I will be disappointed leaving Brazil without a podium in the independents,” explained the #20 STR driver, who arrives in Brazil currently sitting 8th in the Yokohama Independents with 28 points.
