Pepe Oriola set the pace in the first World Touring Car Championship practice session in Slovakia, beating fellow SEAT racer Gabriele Tarquini to the top time.
Spaniard Oriola set a time of 2:13.434 around the Slovakiaring to beat Italian Tarquini to the top time by two tenths of a second. Initially Portugese Tiago Monteiro had been amongst the pace setters but he briefly brought out the red flags after his Sunred-engined SEAT’s engine cut out.
An impressive third fastest was Brit James Nash, who was 0.429 seconds behind Oriola. The first of the works Chevrolets was fourth, with Rob Huff the last of the drivers within a second of Oriola’s time.
Alain Menu and Aleksei Dudukalo were fifth and sixth fastest, whilst Yvan Muller was seventh – albeit 1.482 seconds off the quickest time.
Tom Coronel, Franz Engstler and Monteiro completed the top ten in eighth, ninth and tenth respectively.
