Double Moroccan top ten for Darryl O’Young

Darryl O’Young matched his best Yokohama Independents result of the season during the sixth round of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship.

Having lined up down on row eight for both races and eighth in the Yokohama Independents, the Special Tuning Racing driver worked his way up the order in both races around the streets of Marrakech to achieve top ten finishes.

O’Young explained that it is his lack of knowledge with the new SEAT 1.6litre turbocharged engine which cost him in qualifying: “As I am still learning the new SEAT 1.6T, we couldn’t find a good setup on the car to achieve a good qualifying result, and that hurt us this weekend.”

The Hong Kong based driver was caught up in an opening lap collision in round five and this compromised him for the rest of the weekend. Despite the incident, O’Young was able to add another nine points to his tally in the Yokohama Independents and two to his outright Championship total.

Leaving Morocco, O’Young is sixth in the Yokohama Independents with fourteen Championship points and sixteenth in the overall drivers’ Championship with three points.

“I am satisfied with the races as two top 10 ’ s are good from where we started, but we need to improve our qualifying in order to earn better results in the future,” explains O’Young.

Rounds seven and eight of the 2012 World Touring Car Championship take place at the Slovakia Ring over the 28/29 April while O’Young heads to Zolder first for the second round of the 2012 FIA GT1 World Championship.
