Isaac Tutumlu to race for Proteam

Spaniard Isaac Tutumlu will make his World Touring Car Championship début for Proteam Racing this season, it was announced today. The 27 year-old will partner Mehdi Bennani at the Italian team in the coming season.

Tutumlu, of Kurdish origins, has raced previously in the MitJet series, the Catalunya Touring Car Championship, the Porsche Supercup and last season he competed for Campos Racing in the International Superstars Series.

“I’m excited, as WTCC is a championship I have been following for many years and where I have always wanted to race,” said Tutumlu. “I want to thank Proteam for giving me the opportunity to race with them and with such an important brand like BMW. I do not have specific expectations since it is my first time racing in the series and with this car. Most of the tracks, except  Monza, Valencia and Hungaroring, are new to me, and this will also make the experience more challenging. I hope to help Proteam to achieve the best results possible.”

Although it was announced by Proteam last month that Javier Villa García would be partnering Bennani at Proteam in 2012 and reported on Touring-Cars.Net, it now seems unlikely that Villa will return to the series for the start of 2012.
