Proteam Racing have this weekend confirmed that Spanish racer Javier Villa García will remain with the team during the 2012 World Touring Car Championship season.
Villa García made his début in the WTCC at the start of the 2011 season with the Italian-based team. The young Spaniard showed promising form during the season on his way to 12th overall in the championship and a best result of third in Hungary.
“We are very happy to announce Javier Villa Garcia in our team like last year,” said a statement from Porteam. “After the negotiations in recent months we have yesterday finalized our agreement.”
“Therefore like last season, this year Proteam Racing will be in the WTCC with Mehdi Bennani and Javier Villa García.
“We have great expectations from both as a result of the promising last season.”
24 year-old Villa has previously raced in the GP2 Series between 2006 and 2009 in which he became the most experienced driver in the series’ short history. He turned his attention to touring cars for 2011, completing a full season with Proteam in the WTCC. Villa finished consistently in the points, took one podium finish and one fastest lap during the course of the season.
