Tom Chilton was fifth after having also found more than a second between sessions. His team-mates Tom Onslow-Cole and Andy Neate improved slightly on their earlier times but were still languishing in 14th and 19th places.

Gordon Shedden was sixth, Andrew Jordan seventh and Tom Boardman was eighth having found 1.2 seconds.

Although Mat Jackson could ‘only’ manage 9th fastest he has often struggled with practice and qualifying pace and will undoubtedly come on stronger come race day.

Martin Byford continued his excellent start to his first weekend in the BTCC by setting the 10th fastest time.

In all there were 8 drivers who dipped below the 2-minute mark, with most drivers improving their times by around a second since the first practice session.
