Team Aon: ‘The target is consistency’

Team Aon head to Snetterton this weekend as many people’s favourite to take the wins. In the past few days championship leaders Matt Neal and Jason Plato have admitted that they believe that both Tom Onslow-Cole and Tom Chilton will be the driver’s to beat around the high-speed Norfolk circuit. However team principal Mike Earle has played down their statements, suggesting that they are just another round of mind-games in the ever competitive British series.

“The opposition has been quite open about us being the team to beat this weekend, which is an interesting statement,” said Earle. “It’s flattering but the reality is that they are simply trying the old trick of diverting pressure from them to us. As with every race weekend, we are working hard to optimise our car’s strengths and we are of course aiming for as large a point-haul as possible.

“We are aiming for the championships and with four more rounds to go, the target has to be consistently strong race finishes.”

Tom Chilton is feeling confident of adding his one win so far this season, and hauling himself up the championship standings. Chilton is currently 9th in the points, with 60 points – alomost half that of championship leader Neal. However at the recent Snetterton test Chilton set a lap some half a second better than anyone else – an ominous omen for the rest of the field.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to racing after the seven week break especially considering what a strong test we had at Snetterton recently,” added Chilton. “We spent the day working hard on our set-up and were rewarded with a positive outcome. My fastest lap of the day was inside the current lap record so I’m confident of getting back to my winning ways this weekend.”
