Rosario race winners

The Autódromo Municipal Juan Manuel Fangio is located in the Argentine city of Rosario, Santa Fe province.

The circuit opened in 1981 as a small 1.36 kilometre simple track, which is how it remained for its first decade of existence.

An extension in 1993 effectively doubled the track length, although at 2.589 km it was still considered to be a short lap.

Still, the new layout was enough to bring the country’s top series, the TC2000 championship, to the track, although it would only visit for four years before moving on.

South American Super Touring followed in 1997 for four years, but when that series folded top-level racing went quiet at the circuit, which came back under the control of the city in 2001.

In 2009 the circuit closed, but after three years it was reopened and refurbished, with pitlane improvements, a new surface and a new name, in honour of Argentina’s most successful single-seater racer.

The circuit hosted the FIA World Rallycross championship in 2015 and 2016 on a purpose-built multi-surface circuit.

Bigger changes came in 2017 with a new 450-metre extension to create a new Turn 2, and two years later further track modifications were made to the middle of the lap, creating a new twistier and more complex infield sector.
